How long does it take for the paint to dry?
With latex paints, the drying time is typically only a couple hours. Oil paint takes longer and should dry overnight, although we rarely use oil-based paints.
What are the different paint sheens?
The sheen refers to the light reflectivity of the painted surface. This varies from no sheen to high gloss, with each one ideal for different surfaces. Generally, they are referred to as: flat, matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and high gloss.
Which sheen should I use?
In general, flat or matte paint is used on ceilings, eggshell or satin on walls, and semi-gloss on trims, doors and other high traffic areas. A lower sheen will tend to hide imperfections since it doesn’t reflect as much light, but they are harder to clean. A higher sheen will leave a smooth, easy to clean surface but it tends to show imperfections a lot more.
